2017 State Championships – State Senior Fours qualifiers – Bateau Bay Women’s Bowling Club

October 20 2017:

Our super Senior Fours Champions of Janice Reynolds, Lyn Vetter, Cheryl Butler and Liz Cohen played in the State Senior Fours Championship at Taren Point Bowling Club today against Tuncurry Beach.

For those of you that have been praying for rain, all we can say is, you booked it in for the wrong day – the conditions for bowling anywhere today were atrocious, and Taren Point was no different.

Play started under a light drizzle, and when the first end was declared tied by the umpire, we looked set for a great battle.

The second end went Tuncurry’s way by 1 shot but during the third end, the heavens opened with the result being a drop of 4 shots.  All bowlers were called off the green by this time, and during the rain delay the controlling body reduced the ends to be played to 18.

When play re-commenced (now rain and wind combined), the bowling gods stayed with Tuncurry and by end 10 we were down 2-16.

But Liz and the girls stayed strong and bit by bit clawed their way back to 11-17 at end 16 and thoughts of Red Head entered our minds – we could just do this.

Sadly, not to be this time with the end result being a loss 13 shots to 19 – but a wonderful fightback by our girls in the second half of the game.  And congratulations to Tuncurry on some beautiful bowling, they certainly spoiled our party on a number of occassions.

Our intrepid supporters stayed out in the weather with the girls throughout the game and all the weather and their support was much appreciated by Liz, Cheryl, Lyn and Janice – in fact, the Tuncurry ladies wanted our support crew to stay for the second game and lend them our vocals.  Unfortunately, some of us had to get back on the train and head home (and yes, we did get busted in the quiet carriage).

But we wouldn’t have missed it for the world – well done girls, you’ve done us proud again!!
